We’ve decided to have an Advent Calendar with a difference in the run up to Christmas 2022.
2022 has been a very special year for us, so for every day in December we’ll be looking back on a memory that made it.
Day 1 – our Vegetable Patch
We’re starting today with our Cromer Road Vegetable Patch. The Veg patch was created as part of our Environmental Strategy. As well as having a bench for our staff to take breaks, we’ve been growing our own crops. So far, we’ve had berries, carrots and cabbage.
Who knows what 2023 has in stage – but look out for us at country fairs!!
Day 2 – Harrison Road, Norton.
This was a lengthy programme of works that included roof renewals, window upgrades, new external doors, loft insulation, repointing and the installation of new extractor fans and smoke alarms.
Day 3 – RIDDOR
We’re over the moon to confirm that Unitas has now 1.8million working hours since the last RIDDOR reportable accident – we couldn’t be prouder of our amazing team who’ve worked so hard and with such consideration for us to reach such an incredible milestone.
Day 4 – Easter for the Hub Foundation.
Looking back to Easter, our Helping Hands funds donated 200 eggs to vulnerable and disadvantaged children in Stoke-on-Trent.
Day 5 – The Aspiration Summit
In October, we attended the Aspiration Summit at The Kings Hall, Stoke. The event was organised by Stoke-on-Trent City Council with the aim of introducing job seekers and school leavers with local businesses and opportunities.
In addition, there were speeches from notable guests. Councillor Abi Brown, The Leader of the City Council, Councillor Dave Evans, the Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, and our own Brooke Chomyn spoke.
Brooke, who was recently recognised in the Staffordshire Youth Awards, gave a passionate description of her life as a care leaver, her opportunities as an Apprentice and her ambition.
Day 6 – Our New Board
In June this year, we welcomed our new Board Members; Julie Lorraine and Nicky Fieldler bring with them a wealth of experience in Housing Management, Health & Safety and have both served at Executive and Director level.
While Julie serves as Chair, Nicky serves as Non-Executive Director.
We were (and remain) thrilled to have them both on board.
Day 7 – Dresden Works
In February this year, we completed a series of works on bungalows in Dresden. This was a massive project, involving Re-roofing, Re-pointing (in the properties requiring this), Replacement of soffits, fascia’s and guttering, New external doors, Replacement of existing timber cladding, Renewal of extractor fans and the installation of security lights and smoke alarms.
Don’t they look fantastic!
