Unitas Chosen Charity

As a local company, Unitas Stoke is all about community and supporting our local area. This year we have chosen our first Unitas charity and throughout the year aim to run a series of fundraising events. The charity we have chosen is Cancer Research UK (Hanley) and we’ll be supporting the charity until 31st March 2023.

Paula Sheehan from Cancer Research responded to Unitas choosing the Cancer Research as their chosen charity, “Thank you so much to the employees of Unitas Stoke on Trent Limited for choosing to support Cancer Research UK. We wish you the best of luck with your fundraising.

“Every two minutes, someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer. Your support is working to fund the charity’s life-saving research to beat over 200 types of cancer, which will help more men, women and children survive.

“Although the number of people being diagnosed with cancer is increasing, the good news is that, thanks to research, survival rates have doubled in the past 40 years. More people across Stoke on Trent are now beating the disease than ever before and Cancer Research UK’s work is at the heart of that progress. Together we will beat cancer.”

As the whole country has been re-emerging from the pandemic, we’ve finally been able to start our fundraising efforts with the first event being Potters ‘Arf back in September. Six of our Unitas staff including Director Wayne Booth took on the infamous half marathon with our very own Chris coming 3rd in the overall race!

Wayne Booth said: “Unitas are delighted to be working with Cancer Research UK (Hanley) this year. It’s great to see so many Unitas staff and contractors getting involved in supporting activities such as the Potters ‘Arf supporting this charity and the vital work they do. We recognise as a large employer in the area, the importance of our social responsibilities in supporting local charities, and we hope we can raise as much money as possible for this year’s charity which is close to many of our staffs hearts.”

The terrific Potters ‘Arf team raised over £900 from this one event and presented the fundraising money to Paula from Cancer Research back in October. The fundraising isn’t over for this year, we have more events running before 2021 draws to a close.

Through December Unitas will be getting into the festive spirit for their fundraising with the Unitas Staff & Contractors Christmas Quiz taking place on the 1st December, followed by a Christmas jumper day on the 10th December.
