Assistant Site Manager, Wes Walker was invited to give a talk to students at Solihull College & University Centre via video link.
Wes delivered his presentation to 23 students who are studying Level 3 Construction, Built Environment, providing crucial insight and understanding into what it’s like to work in this buoyant sector.
The focus of the lecture was in the following areas:
- Wes’s background and experience
- Unitas and what we do
- What is a bill of quantities, including types
- Who in the construction industry would produce and use a bill of quantities, and why it’s important
The session ended with a question-and-answer session. The students asked lots of questions which generated a great discussion regarding the construction industry, the gas industry and Wes’s own career and HNC Level 4 Qualification.
The lecture was a real success and a great way for Wes to improve on his own professional development while helping to nurture the minds of tomorrow!
Oribi Amachree, a lecturer at the University, had this to say:
“The guest lecture was brilliant and very interesting. I and the students enjoyed it very much. I was particularly glad that they engaged well in the session and asked questions especially focused on career progression. This was very timely for the students as they are rounding up their extended diploma program this summer. The pieces of advice Wes gave to the students were very valuable and they appreciated his openness.
“Despite the session being held online, I was very impressed at Wes’s ability to engage well with the students as he shared his experiences and showed them the practical application of some of the theoretical content they have been learning.”
Well done Wes!
