About
Ensuring sustainability
Stoke-on-Trent City Council is committed to tackling damp, mould and condensation, reducing fuel poverty and ensuring sustainability throughout their properties.
As part of these priorities and as their repairs and maintenance contractors, Unitas has invested in a number of Switchee Smart Thermostats, and these will be installed in properties across Stoke-on-Trent during Autumn 2023.
Switchee are an award winning multi-national company founded in 2015 with the principle of saving residents’ money on their fuel bills whilst providing accurate data for social landlords to manage their housing stock.
Switchee devices are now used by over 100 social housing providers in England.
The Switchee Smart Thermostat is a touch-screen internet enabled device which allows you to control your heating and optimise your energy use. This can reduce your energy use and lower your bills.
In addition to giving you information to help your budget, the Switchee will provide us with data and insights which we can use to further develop our pro-active policies and programmes of investment in homes to target damp, mould and condensation.
These insights will help us to identify if your home could be at risk of condensation, damp and mould developing –meaning we can act upon it sooner.
There is no cost to you for the purchase or installation of the device. Switchee estimate that they cost about £5 per year to operate, but your household could save up to 17% on fuel bills in that time.
No, the Smart Thermostat is independently connected to the internet and doesn’t need any Wi-Fi or mobile data to work.
No; we chose Switchee because as well as giving both you and us the best results, they are user-friendly. Even if you’re not technologically minded, the devices are easy to use, use plain language and come with a full users’ guide and troubleshooting document.
Unitas will be working alongside trusted partners, Phoenix Gas (find them here) to install the Smart Thermostats. Each device will be installed in your home during a short appointment. This will be arranged in advance and will be at a time that is convenient to the household.
If your home has been selected to have a Switchee Smart Thermometer, we will be in contact with you directly to make an appointment.
We hope the above information helps with any questions you have. However, if you have a specific question or would like any further information on the devices, please email governance@unitas.co.uk.
